I saw some report on childhood obesity saying Black and Mexican children are predisposed to become obese because they have more of some chemical than any other kids. I think this has nothing to do with it, and neither does race. I think parents are lazy and in turn their kids are too. They see their children becoming obese and don’t care to do anything about it like maybe change their diet or exercise with them to motivate them.

Not always.

I don’t think so.
It’s not like people mean to make their children be overweight, I don’t think it’s the parents at all..
Well it could be that too, but i think genetics plays a big part as well.
no.
i have a lazy mom and a more active dad or whatever
I myself am lazy but am skinny and maybe should be adding a few pounds on and i eat a lot, i’ve been told i eat like a horse.
it is the child’s choice if they want to eat healthy or not. either way people in general love food, I’m sure of it!
but i do agree if the child gets really fat then the parent(s) should take action.
I really don’t think so, the kid should be making their own decision, (which they probably tell their parents ALL the time). It’s their choice to live an unhealthy life style. Also it could be genetics.
Most parents don’t do it on purpose and sometimes it’s the influence of the people around you/environment that can take an influence on obesity.
for awhile it’s the parents fault, but after time when the kids are older it’s theirs
I’m fat now, neither of my parents were fat…It started when I took hormones after 30, so maybe you need to do more research. I wasn’t fat as a kid, neither was my sister or brother. (now my sister and I are…) so you need to factor in AGE in there somewhere…not all fat kids are fat adults and not all skinny kids stay that way..
I think it is definitely the parent’s fault if the child is obese because now days parents don’t give two squirts of pis$ to make sure their kids eat well. They throw a Big Mac in their face to make them shut up and take no time out of their day to prepare a well balanced meal. Many parent’s just sit their kids in front of the TV and don’t take them out to the park or encourage them to play sports. It’s just sad.
yea its mostly the parents fault. The start bad eating and exercise habits that they never recover from. Then the get sick and our taxpayer dollars pay to keep these fat bastards from dropping dead at 45
I think that there are a lot of things at fault. I don’t think its the parents fault but its not the kids fault either. Since you specifically pointed out African Americans and Latinos, then you should know that most often these parents are working more hours then they are at home so they may and probably don’t have the time to make a healthy meal or spend time with their children to make sure that they are getting enough exercise. Instead to make the money stretch a little bit more they might have to feed them unhealthy food such as fast food or frozen dishes. All in all I would say that the most blame lands with our government and these “Affordable Fast Food Joints” for not supplying healthier food. And calling someone obese or overweight doesn’t help them get healthy it causes them to either go to the extreme and get an eating disorder or it un-motivates them so they just keep doing what they do.
But this is just my opinion.
Parents supply the food.
I think childhood obesity is a very complex issue. Yes, I believe the majority is because we don’t feed our children properly and we feed them too large of portions. And then the children do not exercise with play, they play video games and watch movies, and go online rather than riding a bike or climbing a playground. But some children definitely have physical issues. One of my friends has a bad heart, and she was very overweight in high school. She tried to eat properly but she could only walk a few feet because of her bad heart. she would need heart surgery eventually. Some do have thyroid problems. It’s just complex. I do think that some people have genetically slow metabolism. Hope this explains it.
