I read that children over the age of 1 who are eating 100% table food do not need whole milk, assuming that they are eating the recommended portions of fruits and vegetables and also getting a consistent source of iron.
The main point of the study (which was in an old parenting magazine) was that if children are eating proper portions from each of the food groups, whole milk isn’t necessary. Rather, it’s extra fat in their diet which could cause obesity down the road.
Now, I’m aware that most babies and toddlers don’t eat proper portions of each food group, simply because they can’t eat that much each day and some foods are too difficult for them yet, but that’s not the point. The study said IF…
